To secure your release from jail while awaiting trial, the court will accept bail – money or property that will be held by the court for the entirety of your trial. This ensures that you will return for your day in court and not go away after getting released. If you violate the conditions of your release or miss a court appearance, the bail is revoked and forfeited. You will also be labeled a fugitive. A bondsman helps defendants to post bail if they do not have enough money to do it on their own. He will charge 10% of the bond amount as his fee and this cannot be refunded.
