Sex offenders are required by law to notify the Sheriff’s Office of the county they are currently living in. The same information is also entered into the national sex offender registry maintained by the federal government. Sex offenders are defined as individuals who have been found guilty of a sex crime. The definition of a sex crime may differ in each state. The generally accepted definition is an illegal act that involves sexual misconduct against another individual without their consent such as rape, sex trafficking, and sexual assault.

Make sure that you understand the information stated in the disclaimer before proceeding to the registry. You may find that some of the data in the registry is no longer current (i.e. an offender’s previous address) or is incomplete (i.e. just the block they live on). This is because not all sex offenders comply with the law.
Bail and Bondsman
The court may grant bail to an accused individual depending on the gravity of the charges filed. Bail is the temporary release of the defendant from custody provided he pays a certain amount to the court as a form of collateral that will guarantee his appearance in court during his trial. If the defendant misses an appearance, the collateral is forfeit.
Accused individuals who are unable to make bail due to financial constraints can secure the services of a bondsman. The bondsman will act as a surety, pledging to the court that he will pay the bail amount if the defendant misses a court appearance. The defendant must pay the bondsman his fee, 10% of the bail amount, in order to get his services. He may also be required to put down collateral for the rest of the bail amount if the bondsman views him as a high risk.
