The laws and statutes that define an illegal act as a sex crime may differ between states but there are certain acts that are widely accepted as sex crimes such as rape, sexual assault, and child molestation. Each state’s sex offender data is collected by the federal government and published in a separate registry – the National Sex Offender Registry. Both the state and national sex offender databases are available for use to the public.

If you wish to learn if there are any sex offenders in Franklin County, you can search their database

Make sure to read the disclaimer thoroughly before using the system. It is important to do this because the government cannot completely guarantee the accuracy of the information in the system. You may see results that show an offender’s last known address. In some cases, you may encounter an incomplete address such as just the block where their house is located.

Bail and Bondsman

The court asks for collateral in the form of bail whenever it agrees to temporarily release a defendant from custody prior to his trial date. The money or property used to post bail is held as a guarantee that the defendant will appear at his trial or else the bail is forfeited. In cases where the defendant is unable to post bail for financial reasons, a bondsman can be hired to pay the bail amount for a fee. The fee is usually no more than 10% of the bail amount and is non-refundable.
