Important Jail Policies and Procedures:

Inmates at the Erie County Jail are allowed to receive visitors. However, they must be listed on an inmate’s visitation list in order to be allowed entry during visiting hours.

Individuals visiting an inmate are required to show a government-issued photo ID card and must be 18 years of age. Minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. During each visitation period, no more than 3 visitors (including children) are allowed to visit with an inmate. All visitors are subject to be checked if they have outstanding warrants and/or protection orders.

Working at the Erie County Jail or Sheriff’s Office:

A deputy sheriff in Erie County can earn a starting salary of $16 which will increase to $16.50 per hour after six months on the job.  The benefits for this position include health, prescription, dental, vision, and life insurance as well as paid vacation, holidays, sick time, and OPERS retirement.

The responsibilities of this position are patroling an assigned area of the county, maintaining safety and security of property and citizens, and enforcing traffic laws. A deputy sheriff is also tasked with investigating crimes, accidents, and complains as well as serving warrants and performing duties specifically assigned by the sheriff.

To qualify for deputy sheriff, you must be at least 21 years old, a US citizen, have a high school diploma or GED, possess a valid OHIO State Driver’s License, and certified as a peace officer by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council.
