Syracuse Police are investigating a shooting.

On Saturday November 18th, 2017 at approximately 9:57 PM, Syracuse Police Officers responded to the 400 block of S. Beech Street in regards to reports of shots being fired. Upon arrival, Officers located a 41 year old male who was suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest/shoulder area.

The victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital by AMR Ambulance for treatment. The victim is listed in serious, but stable condition.

The investigation revealed that the victim was sitting in a vehicle when he was shot, but, there is no suspect information available at this time.

Detectives are currently investigating this incident, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Syracuse Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at . All calls will remain confidential. Anonymous tips may also be submitted using the “SPD Tips” app.

Syracuse Police are investigating a stabbing.

On Saturday November 18th, 2017 at approximately 1:15 AM, Syracuse Police Officers responded to the 200 block of W. Glen Avenue in regards to a stabbing complaint.

Upon arrival, Officers met with a 20 year old female who was suffering from a stab wound to the left side of her abdomen. The victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital by AMR Ambulance Personnel for treatment. Her injury does not appear to be life threatening.

The victim stated that she had gotten into a fight with a black female, and during the fight, she sustained a stab wound. The victim refused to provide any additional description of the suspect. Investigating Officers also interviewed witnesses to the incident, but they also refused to provide any suspect description.

Syracuse Police Arrest Suspects Involved in an Attempted Robbery.

On Friday, November 17, 2017 at approximately 9:02pm, Syracuse Police responded to an Attempted Robbery investigation. The victim reported that he was attacked by two males in the 700 block of Cannon Street.

The victim told police the suspects demanded property from him and then struck him over the head with a handgun. The suspects also kicked the victim about his face and stomach. As a result of the incident, the victim sustained a three inch laceration to the top of his head and was transported to University Hospital for medical treatment.
The victim was able to provide police with a description of the suspects involved. The initial responding officer radioed this information to other units in the area. A short time later, two individuals matching the description were located by police in the 100 block of W. Pleasant Ave. The suspects were identified as Teon Jacobs, 16, and Rashief Brown, 24, of 406 Roberts Ave, Syracuse.
Jacobs and Brown were arrested and charged with Attempted Robbery in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree. They were lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center pending their arraignments.

Syracuse Police Make an Arrest After Store Robbery.

Syracuse Police made an arrest after a robbery that occurred at the Tops Grocery Store, located at 700 First North St. in the City of Syracuse. At about 6:10 P.M. on November 16, 2017, Syracuse Police Officers responded to the Tops Grocery Store, located at 700 First North St. for a call of a Robbery.

Their investigation revealed that a male suspect entered the store, stole perishable items without paying for them, then fought with loss prevention personnel and displayed a pocket knife when confronted outside.

The suspect, Damian Hooper, 22 years of age, who is homeless was ultimately charged with Robbery 2nd and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th. He was subsequently charged in the Onondaga County Justice Center on those charges, to be arraigned on 11/17/17.

Syracuse Police Department Crime Reduction Team statistics from the 2017 G.I.V.E. Initiative

The Gun Involved Violence Elimination Initiative (G.I.V.E) focuses on communities in 17 counties served by 20 law enforcement agencies that collectively report 86 percent of the violent crime in the state (outside of New York City).

The Crime-fighting strategies developed under the G.I.V.E. initiative vary by jurisdiction and include, but are not limited to: enhanced patrols in identified “hot spots” or locations that have shown to be the most prone to gun violence; focused deterrence against violent gangs and groups considered responsible for the most gun violence in communities, along with other crime prevention and detection activities.

The members of the S.P.D. Crime Reduction Team played an integral role in this initiative. They have made numerous arrests, recovered dangerous weapons and recovered assorted drugs.

Between January 2017 and October 31st 2017, The S.P.D. Crime Reduction Team has compiled the following statistics:
-Recovered Firearms – 133 (104 Handguns / 29 Long Guns)
-Cocaine – 1204 grams
-Marijuana – 16,977 grams
-Heroin – 2617 packets
-Other drugs – 1497 grams
-Criminal charges filed – 530 Felonies / 2,299 Misdemeanors / 2,910 Violations / 639 Warrant Arrests
-Traffic Violations – 4,703 / Vehicle Stops - 3,038 / Pedestrian Stops – 1,006
-Vehicles seized during investigations – 7
-Total U.S. Currency seized - $174,451.51

Syracuse Police has made an arrest in a child abuse incident.

On November 7th, 2017 at approximately 1:20 PM, the Syracuse Police Department responded to an injured child complaint. Upon arrival, Officers met with the guardian of a 3 month old baby, who had obvious injuries to his legs, and bruising on his head.

The Officers immediately requested an ambulance respond, and the baby was transported to Upstate University Hospital for treatment. Officers were later advised that the baby had two fractured ankles, a fractured knee, internal head injuries, and other bruising about his body. The injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Detectives assigned to the Abused Persons Unit immediately began an investigation into the background of this incident. The guardian of the baby initially reported that the injuries occurred while the baby was with another person. The investigation revealed that the baby was with the guardian during the time of the injury, and not anyone else. It was also determined that the guardian was responsible for causing the injuries.

As a result, Detectives arrested Lillian Schultz, 34 years old, of Syracuse N.Y. Schultz has been charged with Reckless Assault of a Child, Falsely Reporting an Incident and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Schultz is currently lodged in the Onondaga County Justice Center.
