Sex Offender Search and Lookup:

Based on federal law, all sex offenders need to be registered in the state sex offender database and national sex offender database so that law enforcement can keep track of their movements in the interest of public safety. An individual who has a conviction for a sexually oriented offense such as rape, sex trafficking, and child pornography is called a sex offender. To get data on sex offenders in Salem County, you can visit the Sheriff’s Alert page. Bear in mind that there may be times that you will get last known addresses of offenders in your search results. This is caused by the non-compliance of some offenders with the registration law.

Bail and Bondsman

When charged with a crime in New Jersey, an individual may be granted temporary release from jail while awaiting trial depending on his score on a risk assessment tool. This is an algorithm that tries to calculate how much of a risk it will be to grant freedom to a pretrial inmate. A defendant with a high score will remain detained while his trial is pending because it means that he may be a flight risk or may commit another crime while out of jail. A defendant with a low score may be released with or without monitoring because he is less likely to run or harm the community.

The Salem County Sheriff's Office participates in the "PROJECT-IDENT-A-KID". This project is designed for parents to collect valuable identification information on their children to include, DNA samples, lock of hair, photographs, medical and dental records, and fingerprints to be stored by the parents in one location. In the tragic case of a child abduction, time is of the essence. Along with Amber Alert, the Project Ident-A-Kid package can help law enforcement in swiftly tracking down the missing child.

With written parental approval, Sheriff Officers fingerprint the child and provide the fingerprint card to the parent. No copies of the fingerprints are maintained by anyone else. These fingerprints are then included in a packet provided to the parents for storage of additional identifying information.

On Saturday, October 7th, Sheriff Officers Denee Mayhew and Alaura Maxwell were on hand at the Elmer Harvest Day to talk about Sheriff Officer duties and to provide fingerprint service for children participating in the Ident-A-Kid program.

The next event where Sheriff Officers will be providing this service will be on Saturday, October 14th at Pedricktown Day from 11:00am-3:00pm in Oldmans Twp.
