The Stearns County Jail, a medium/maximum security jail, is licensed by the State of Minnesota to house inmates for up to one year after final disposition. The jail houses inmates who are pending in the court process; who have been arrested but not yet convicted and sentenced.  Most are housed full-time while some are Huber/Work Release inmates who are housed nights and weekends but allowed to work. Anyone taken into custody within Stearns County is booked into this Jail, even if the arrest was made by a local police department.

Important Jail Policies and Procedures

Inmates are limited to one visit per visiting day. Inmates sentenced to less than three days will not be given visiting privileges.

Visitors are limited to one 20-minute visiting period per day. Visits may be shortened to 15 minutes during busy visiting days.

These visits are non-contact and appropriate attire is required.

Only the number of people who can be reasonably accommodated in the visiting room will be allowed at any one time.

Inmates attending a program shall be called out to attend their visit but will not be allowed to return to the program.

Any inmate may refuse to see any visitor, either professional or social.

Any visitor under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Any visitor under the age of 18, who is not accompanied by a parent, must have written permission from his/her parent or guardian to visit an inmate. The parent or guardian must come into the jail to sign the permission slip on the first visit.

No eating or drinking is allowed in the visiting rooms.

No personal property (purse, phone, coat, etc.) is allowed in visiting rooms.  Coin lockers are available for 25 cents to store these items.

Except for legal materials, neither professional visitors nor the inmate are permitted to pass anything. All legal material to be passed will be reviewed by a Corrections Officer.

Professional visits (attorney, clergy, etc.) may be conducted at any reasonable hour. Clergy must first meet with Program staff prior to their first visit.  You may reach them at .

Violation of visiting rules and regulations by an inmate may result in a loss of visiting privileges. Violations of visiting rules and regulations by a visitor may result in the visitor being removed from the facility and being denied further visiting privileges

Visitation is held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 6:00pm – 9:00pm and on Saturdays 8:30am – 11:00am. There is no visitation on Fridays or Sundays.  This schedule is in effect year-round and does not change for holidays.
