This is usually set at 10% of the bail amount is required. Unlike bail, this fee will not be returned to the defendant even if he or she is acquitted.

MEDIA RELEASE - October 9, 2017

At 11:29 AM on October 8, 2017, the Midland County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the Law Enforcement Center to make contact with a parent and their 14 year old daughter. The daughter wanted to report that she had received a private message on social media from a 15 year old male classmate. The message contained a threat of violence that would take place at Bullock Creek High School.

Deputies spoke with Bullock Creek School officials to make them aware of the threat. Deputies contacted the 15 year old suspect and his parents. The parents of the suspect were cooperative during the investigation. At this time, it does not appear that the suspect had the ability to carry out his threat.

The 15 year old was transported to the Midland County Juvenile Care Center. The complaint remains under investigation. Once the investigation is completed a report will be sent to the Midland County Prosecutor.

I would like ot commend the student who reported this potential threat to her parent and law enforcement. I would also like to thank the staff at Bullock Creek Schools for their cooperation during this investigation. We all have a responsibility to work together to keep our schools safe. Midland is a great community to live and work in, as a result of the collective effort of our citizens working in partnership with Law Enforcement.
