Sex Offender Search and Lookup:
The law dictates that sex offenders must register in the state and national sex offender registries. The law also requires that these individuals update their registration whenever there are any changes in their information. To help increase safety and awareness, the public is allowed to access the information in state and national sex offender registries. A sex offender is defined as an individual who has committed a crime involving sex such as rape, sex trafficking, and molestation. To view the list of sex offenders living in Kentucky, you can check the registry here.
Keep in mind that some sex offenders may not update their information as the law states. This means that there may be times when the search results reveal last known addresses instead of current ones.
Bail and Bondsman
The court can grant bail – the temporary release of a person charged with a criminal offense while awaiting trial – if the defendant promises to show up for each of his court dates. Along with the promise, the court may require the defendant to put down money or property as an additional guarantee. If he fails to show up, then the money or property will be forfeited to the court.
Not all defendants are able to post bail. Some will require financial aid. This is where the services of a bondsman come in. A bondsman can help a defendant post bail by acting as a surety. This means that he will be the one who will end up owing the court money if the defendant does not appear in court. A bondsman will charge a fee for his services. It is normally set at 10% of the bail amount and cannot be refunded.
The state of Kentucky has prohibited the practice of commercial bail bonding. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). If a bondsman comes in from out of state to arrest a fugitive who is currently in Kentucky, the law requires that he obtain a warrant first. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 440.270.
