    Sex Offender Search and Lookup:

Sex offenders are commanded by the law to have their information registered in the national and state sex offender databases in the interest of public safety and awareness. A person is considered a sex offender if he or she has been convicted of a sexually oriented offense such as rape, molestation, and prostitution. Kentucky maintains an online sex offender registry here. Please keep in mind that the information cannot be guaranteed as accurate or complete as some offenders may fail to obey the law. Some addresses listed in the registry may no longer be current while others may be incomplete, listing only the block where an offender lives.

    Bail and Bondsman

Bail is when the court allows a defendant to be released from custody or jail while his trial is yet to start. This is done with the defendant’s guarantee that he or she will appear before the court during his trial. Some defendants can post bail by simply signing the bond that allows them to be released on their own recognizance. Defendants who are charged with serious crimes or are considered flight risks may be required to lodge money or property as well as an added guarantee. The defendant loses the money or property once he misses one of his scheduled appearances in court.

Money is an issue for some defendants which makes them unable to post bail. In cases like this, a bondsman can be hired to post the bail on behalf of the defendant. This means that he will be the one held responsible by the court for paying the entire amount if the defendant skips bail. To hire a bondsman, you must pay him a non-refundable fee that is usually equal to 10% of the bail amount.

Commercial bail bonds are outlawed in the state of Kentucky. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). To arrest a fugitive who has run away to Kentucky cannot be arrested by a bonds agent from out of state without a warrant. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 440.270.
