Sex Offender Search and Lookup:

The law demands that sex offenders give their information to the County Sheriff for record purposes. Their information will be entered into the state and national sex offender registries, making it accessible to the public. A person who has been found guilty of a crime involving sex such as rape, child pornography, and prostitution is generally classified as a sex offender. Kentucky maintains its registry of sex offenders here. It is important to keep in mind that the state cannot guarantee the accuracy or completeness of the information as some sex offenders may not always comply with the law. There may be times that the searches reveal previous addresses of offenders rather than current ones.

Bail and Bondsman

Bail is the court’s written authorization enabling an inmate to secure temporary release from custody or jail while waiting for his trial. This consent is given with the understanding that the defendant shall be present at all his required court appearances. For some, the court will also require money or property to be lodged with the court as an additional form of insurance. The defendant will lose the money or property if he fails to show up as promised.

Defendants who do not have enough money to post bail can hire a bondsman. For 10% of the bail amount, the bondsman will serve as a surety, taking the place of the defendant in paying the entire bail amount if the defendant misses a court appearance. The fee is non-refundable.

Commercial bail bonds are outlawed in Kentucky. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). A bondsman operating from out of the state may only arrest a fugitive who has fled to Kentucky if he possess a warrant. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 440.270.
