Boone County is located in the central part of the state of Indiana. The county was formed on April 1, 1830, and named after frontiersman Daniel Boone. Lebanon is the largest city in the county and also the county seat. According to the 2010 census, the county has a population of approximately 56,640 people and a total area of 423.25 square miles, of which 0.34 square miles is water and 422.91 square miles is land. Boone County borders the following counties: Clinton County to the north, Hamilton County to the east, Marion County to the southeast, Hendricks County to the south, and Montgomery County to the west.
