Dozens of Whitfield County residents patiently stood in line to receive free NOAA Weather Radios today at the Dalton-Whitfield Library. Whitfield County Emergency Management Agency had planned to give away 75 of the radios this time, but the demand was so great that they wound up providing 161. Whitfield EMA had received a grant from Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security to purchase and distribute 600 of the NOAA Weather Radios; the remaining radios will be given away soon – watch for dates and locations for giveaways. The radios were presented to Whitfield County residents on a first-come, first-serve basis, one per household with proof of residency. If you received a radio from EMA last year, you will not be eligible this year. EMA’s Amy Ramsey and CERT volunteers Jim McDonald and Vicki Fisher, along with EMA Director Claude Craig, were on hand to give out the radios. (Photos by Mitch Talley).
