They seemed like they wanted to help at first but changed our payment agreement. They had my card number for a payment I made for my son and because my son was late on a payment decided, without authorization, to take the entire $410 owed out of my account and put me in a very bad place with my bills getting paid. Not fair especially since $600 had already been paid and the charges were dropped. Will not recommend them to anyone. Poor business practice and that was stealing in my book.

I called them at 2:30am and they called back right away. We paid and then didnt hear from them after that, they submitted the paperwork in the wrong name. We went to there location around 7am when the person was suppose to be released at 5:30am, by the way we sat at the jail waiting for the anthony to call us back. It is currently 8am and still nothing has happened. No call back or anything. Extremely disappointed with them.

As we enter the busy holiday shopping season, one of the best theft prevention steps we can recommend is to lock your vehicle. Do not leave valuables such as purses, laptops, phones, etc., visible from outside your car. The adage, “Lock It Or Lose It,” still holds true. Often times, thieves simply walk through a neighborhood or parking lot and check for unlocked car doors. By ensuring that your vehicle is secure, you increase the chances that the thief will move on and not gain entry into your car.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office is proud to welcome Deputies Dwayne Hoilett, Steven Haffield, Justin Seigler, Gerald Orehostky and Shawn Negron to our Agency. Sheriff Deryl Loar and our recruiter, Sergeant Joe Abollo, attended the academy graduation of our newest members from Law Enforcement Class 147 at the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex on the campus of Indian River State College yesterday. Deputy Orehostky was awarded the Top Academic certificate and Deputy Hoilett was presented with the Honorable Leadership Award.

They will now begin a 13-week field training program where they will be paired with experienced deputies as they transition from the academy setting to the patrol function of our Agency. Keep your eyes on our Facebook page and you’ll be seeing these guys again soon when they complete field training and are awarded their collar brass by Sheriff Loar.

Indian River County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Ladell Young retired yesterday after 27 years of dedicated service to the community. Ladell started his career with our Agency in 1991, and was instrumental in the success of our COPE (Community Oriented Policing Enforcement) program in the 1990s. He represented the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office on several boards and committees including the NOPE Task Force, CODE 893 Task Force, SAFIR, the Indian River County Juvenile Justice Council, and countless others. MEDIA RELEASE: November 10, 2017

Sentencing of subject convicted for shooting Indian River County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Lester

On December 18, 2015, Indian River County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Lester was shot while conducting a traffic stop on Old Dixie Highway in Gifford. Andrew Coffee, Jr. punched Deputy Lester in the face, removed a firearm from his waistband, and fired several shots in an obvious attempt to kill him. Deputy Lester returned fire and struck Coffee twice. Coffee then fled the scene on foot but his wounds ceased his efforts and he was apprehended a short time later hiding by a citrus packing house nearby.

As a result of this incident, Coffee was convicted of several felonies including attempted first degree murder of a law enforcement officer by discharging a firearm, battery on a law enforcement officer, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. On November 9, 2017, the Honorable Judge Cynthia Cox sentenced Coffee to life in prison.

After making a full recovery, Deputy Lester was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Section and has excelled in his new position as a detective. After the sentencing, Detective Lester stated, “I am thankful for the support of my wife and family, including my Sheriff’s Office family. I will obviously always remember this, but I am ready to move on and am glad it’s over. I had just become engaged 10 days before the shooting and that was on my mind as it was happening. I knew I had to get home to her. I survived because of the training I had here at the Sheriff’s Office.” He went on to state, “I love my position as a detective and I recently became a training officer. I hope to be able to use this experience to help teach other law enforcement officers.”

Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar noted, “Detective Lester is to be commended for not only the manner in which he subdued this career criminal, but for his never-ending professionalism in the aftermath of the shooting. From his ability to provide critical information to other responding deputies, to his rise to the position of detective, and to his courtroom testimony which landed the career criminal where he belongs for the rest of his life. I would also like to commend the team which brought this case to a successful conclusion, including the other deputies who were on duty that night, the dispatchers in our 911 center, the detectives who handled the criminal investigation, and the rest of the Agency who was there to support Chris. When someone takes on one of our deputies, they take on all of us.”

After the sentencing, Coffee was returned to the Indian River County Jail and will be transported to the Florida Department of Corrections within the next few weeks.
