Bail and Bondsman

A person charged with a crime is allowed to secure his release from jail while awaiting trial through bail. Bail is the money that is lodged with the court in exchange for getting released before the trial starts. This is used as a form of insurance, making certain that the defendant will return to court once the trial begins. If he fails to appear, bail is forfeited.

If the defendant cannot post bail due to financial difficulties, a bondsman can be hired to help out. The bondsman can secure the release of a defendant for a fee – 12% of the bail amount. This fee is non-refundable.
