Whether you prefer to Roll with the Tide or say “War Eagle,” fans from both teams can agree that it’s always a good day to adopt from the Decatur Animal Shelter!

Future Auburn football player and Decatur High School student Josh Marsh spent the morning on the field at Ogle Stadium with teammate (and Alabama fan) Collin Smiley running passes with a few sports fans from the shelter. School Resource Officer Jones joined the crew at Ogle Stadium to supervise the fun.

After a few plays, we’re certain that either pup would be a touchdown of an addition to your family!

This Week’s Law Paws

Auburn fan Briggs is a two-year-old lab-mix. He is extremely well-mannered and calm for his age. Briggs loves to shake hands and is great at obeying commands like “sit” and “stay.” His adoption fee is only $35.

Boxer-mix Mallory prefers the Crimson Tide and would make the perfect game watching buddy. She’s two years old and has a docked tail that never stops wagging. Mallory is an extremely attentive and loyal companion. Her adoption fee has been reduced to $75.

SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:

On November 20, 2017, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Morgan County 911 Center received the call of a robbery at Dollar General Store located at 1000 Beltline Rd. SW.

The caller advised that a man came into the business and produced a shotgun demanding money. The employees at the business complied and gave the man the money out of the register. He then left the store.

The Decatur Police Department's Patrol Division responded to the scene, as well as the Decatur Police Department's K-9 Unit and Violent Crimes Unit. The K-9 partner, Baron, was able to pick up a scent and track it to a residence.

While at the residence, J. C. Denota Nicholas was present and matched the description of the suspect.

Subsequent to the investigation, Nicholas was charged with robbery in the first degree.

Nicholas was also charged with obstructing justice by using a false identity. Nicholas had prior warrants through the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and lied about his identify in order to avoid arrest.

Nicholas was booked in the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $72,500.00 bond.

Robbery in the first degree is a Class A felony.
Obstructing justice by using a false identity is a Class C felony.

“Suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”

Have you been using remote start to warm up your vehicle while you're inside?

❄️ Winter Reminder ❄️

Did you start your car and let it warm up this morning?

As the weather gets cooler, potential thieves will check neighborhoods for unlocked, unattended vehicles.

You can prevent a breaking and entering of your car by:

1. Starting your vehicle up and warming it EARLIER, so you can sit in the vehicle. (Motion lights come in handy, too, if you're up before sunrise.)
2. Having someone watch the vehicle when it's started.

Leaving a vehicle with keys in the ignition is a risk.

Please feel free to share this message with family and friends!

The Law Paws are back with a trip to the DPD Puppy Police Academy!

From climbing fences to crawling through windows, Officers Angel Medina and Darius Carr showed the new recruits how to navigate the Police Department’s agility course.

Boxer-mix puppy Gracie and her fellow trainee, Bella the shepherd, passed the challenge with flying colors. Now, with police training under their belts, they’re ready to graduate to their forever homes.

Law Paws of the Week:

Gracie is a two-month-old boxer-mix. She is the last from her litter at Decatur Animal Shelter and loves to give kisses to whomever will hold her. She is eager to explore and has boundless energy to leap and play. Gracie was adopted shortly after returning to the shelter this morning!

Bella is a seven-year-old shepherd-mix. She was surrendered when her owner could no longer care for her. Bella has a wonderful temperament and would love nothing more than to sit beside her new family and watch television. Her adoption fee is $75.
